So you've just decided to book me for a trial lesson or it's been on your mind, and you're wondering what it's gonna be like, rocking up to a stranger's house for a class. Now, it's only going to be 30 minutes short, but for the little ones, this may seem like a lifetime if they're not on their iPads. Some of us may be excited, some of us may be nervous, and some of us... nothing. But I hope after reading this, you will feel a weight off your chest, because really, there's nothing to worry about! If you have never touched an instrument and are fresh off the boat to music learning, just come as you are.
If you've had prior lessons Prepare a couple of songs you've been playing. It doesn't have to be perfect, it is not a concert! If you've completely forgotten how to play, just bring your most current music books. This will give me an idea of what you've been doing and where you're at. Parents may choose to sit in during the trial, and maybe even for the first couple of lessons. Eventually, the idea is for the student to rock up the elevator independently and be responsible for their own lessons. Of course, parents may have to support the younglings under 6 years old up and down, as well as with their home practice. But any older than that, I strongly encourage students to come into lesson individually without parental supervision.
